This is definitely a restaurant for those on a tight budget. It was full of young folks that likely don’t have alot of money. The portions are large (lots of rice) but if you are looking for a great tasting meal, look elsewhere. The service is fantastic – very friendly and cheery staff but the food is just OK. We ordered the thai chicken curry which my husband liked, won ton soup (which was the best dish in my opinion), sweet and sour chicken (not recommended) and spring rolls (ok). It’s a bit of an odd mix of thai, chinese, vietnamese and other asian countries. There didn’t appear to be any air conditioning which was interesting for a 35° day in Kelowna. We went bc of the high rating on tripadvisor but unfortunately, I wouldn’t return when in Kelowna.
ad Mango’s has excellent food for really cheap. It is mostly Asian cuisine though they have inexpensive breakfasts as well. The lady who runs it is really helpful in picking what you would like to have so that makes up for the lack of familiarity with the menu.
While the decor leaves a bit to be desired the food and the people who run the Mad Mango Cafe are absolutely wonderful. There’s a great variety of choices ranging from salad rolls to Thai curries and some western dishes too. Prices are very, very reasonable, service is friendly and quick. Highly recommended by this traveller.
One of my favorite places to go for a quick lunch in downtown Kelowna is ‘ Mad Mango Cafe.’ Although I like going to Mad Mango Cafe for lunch, it opens at 7.00 am and serves some good breakfast all day long. Mad Mango Café is not a fancy upscale café but the food served is definitely good. They have variety of Soups and Sandwiches, Salad Rolls, Spring Rolls and Rice dishes(like Sweet and Sour Chicken rice, Curry Lamb rice, Curry Prawns Rice).
Everything at Mad Mango Café is reasonably priced ranging from $2.50 to $7.00. I usually order curry chicken bowl which is served with rice. You can also enjoy it with Malaysian Pancake (Roti/Prata) which is fried but delicious.
If you are in a hurry then grab Salad Rolls (Chicken, Seafood and Vegetarian) priced at $4.00.
Located on Bernard Ave. in downtown Kelowna, the Mad Mango Cafe drew me in with its wacky name and the lure of a mango milkshake. Once inside, it had the appearance of a regular greasy coffee shop/breakfast spot, except for the crazy, Indonesian/East Asian inspired menu. I had to try the Indonesian pancakes, which were thin like a crepe but flakier. They were topped with melon and strawberries and were an enjoyable breakfast, especially for fewer than 4 bucks. The mango milkshake was also excellent and would be a refreshing treat on a hot summer day. The service was exceptionally fast and friendly and my coffee was constantly refilled. I also noticed the staff was on a first name basis with many of the regulars that kept coming in, which was a nice touch. After all was said and done, my breakfast of Indonesian pancakes, coffee and a mango milkshake was under 10 dollars and was a great start to my day.
Mad Mango Cafe is a small cafe with a limited number of tables. We were there for breakfast at about 9am on a Saturday morning and, although there were a number of tables available, they were all for 4 and there was 5 of us. Much to one of the servers apparent frustration, we tried a couple combinations of seating with additional chairs or tables. The server was not happy with us and made this quite clear. But once we got settled the service became friendlier.
I had a simple egg, toast and hashbrowns breakfast and it was pretty good. The eggs were done over easy and just how I like them but the hashbrowns were a little dry and may have been past their prime. Although most of the meals are pretty simple and what you would find at almost any diner, the prices are really good. My breakfast with coffee was $7.50.
If you are looking for a quick diner to grab a reasonable breakfast at, I would recommend Mad Mango Cafe.

I could not help by write into this post… I have been a Mad Mango Advocate for over 6 years now. Having spent many a lunch watching and observing the clientelle I would strongly disagree with the first post. The Mad Mango has a very diverse group of clients. If you went in there on a week day at 12 noon you would find a host of lawyers, accountants, financial planners, mechanics, musicians, street people, cashiers etc etc… That is what makes the place. If you are really going to critique the food make sure you try it all. Regardless if the decor isn’t Castcus Club during a busy work day or a nice sunny day you want tasty, cost effective food and you want it fast so you can take it to the beach or back to your office.
Hands down best bang for your buck in downtown Kelowna for a Breakfast Bagel or a TUNA Sandwich (ask for it like Mr. Dustin has it – Pat the owner will know). As for the staff they are great people and if treat them with respect and you will be treated like a king… Enjoy
I run a business down the street and frequently buy lunch from mad mangos. They are friendly, fast and the food is delicious and on top of all that it is cheap! I recommend them to anyone and everyone. If you are looking for fine dining look elsewhere but if you are looking for great food and great service for a great price look no further.
